Managing Billing

How to update your payment method, view invoices, and change your plan.

Managing Billing

All billing management happens in Billing in the left sidebar. You'll need Owner permissions to make changes to billing settings.

Payment Method

Adding or Updating Your Card

  1. Go to Billing > Payment Method
  2. Click Update Payment Method
  3. Enter your card details
  4. Click Save

Your card is stored securely through Stripe — Doculent never sees or stores your full card number.

Payment Failures

If a payment fails (expired card, insufficient funds), you'll receive an email notification. You'll have a grace period to update your payment method before any service interruption.

Invoices

Every payment generates an invoice. To access them:

  1. Go to Billing > Invoices
  2. You'll see a list of all past invoices with dates and amounts
  3. Click any invoice to view or download a PDF

Invoices include a detailed breakdown of your usage for that billing period.

Need invoices sent to a specific email (like your accounting department)? You can add a billing email address in your billing settings.

Changing Your Plan

Upgrading

  1. Go to Billing > Plan
  2. Click Change Plan
  3. Select the plan that fits your needs
  4. Confirm the change

Upgrades take effect immediately. You'll be charged a prorated amount for the remainder of your current billing period.

Downgrading

Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing period. Your current plan stays active until then, so you won't lose access to anything mid-period.

Before downgrading, check that your current usage fits within the lower plan's limits. If you have more channels or team members than the new plan allows, you'll need to adjust before the downgrade takes effect.

Cancellation

If you need to cancel your subscription:

  1. Go to Billing > Plan
  2. Click Cancel Subscription
  3. You'll keep access until the end of your current billing period

Your data is retained for 30 days after cancellation. If you change your mind, you can reactivate within that window and pick up right where you left off.
